BattleForge General Gameplay Video

Was watching some BattleForge videos on Youtube and found this good one:

The guy starts off by playing green cards for units, he has a pretty massive wolf army which he uses to dispatch the computers infantry and archers right away.

After he wins that minor skirmish he goes back to the power-nodes and replenishes his unit's health and summons more wolves.

He moves to the east and south to another power-node spot that is guarded by a large army, but he easily overcomes them with all of his wolves. He captures the power-nodes.

He is then attacked by a small army of infantry and archers. He wisely divides his units into two groups and handles the attackers quickly. He constructs and red power node, waits about a minute for his power to build, and summons a few red fire elementals that hurl flaming boulders from a great distance.

The battle at 06:28 is probably the best of the video. You watch as his massive amount of wolves crash into the computer's human infantry and head straight for the archers in the back. While this is happening the fire elementals are tossing big rocks at the enemies air unit a giant bird that shoots a beam out of its mouth.

Then the computer sends in additional units from the south, and he counters with a couple of healing spells that covers the majority of his units.

If you are interested in BattleForge or want to see how the game works I recommend this video.

Tome Update

Last week BattleForge received an update on the way Tomes are used and how frequently players can battle with them.

This update of the game has introduced a major change in BattleForge, and more specifically how volumes and gameplay work volume. Now it's much easier to participate in Take Game mode with the new lower price points. The mode volume also has been rebalanced to ensure that all cards are loaded and upgraded to level 2.

Another change has taken place today. We have combined the Overlord and Razorleaf servers together to improve the overall experience by accelerating BattleForge match making! With all BattleForge players playing in a server, which is even easier to find competitors in the same skill level at the right time!

By now you must be wondering what this update is and what it really means to you. Lets break everything down into bullet nice and simple.

You Know When You've Been Playing Too Much

I wanted to share a post about you know when you've been playing a game too much. This doesn't necessarily mean I've been playing Battleforge, but I've been busy with other games.

You know you've been playing a game for too long when you are lying down to go to sleep, and the games music starts to creep into your head. It could be the theme music, or the background music, or the battle music. It can be any song you hear from the game, but you know what it is immediately.

Another telltale sign you're too into a game is when you are sitting at work or school and you can't wait to get home to start playing. But not only that you are actively thinking about what you are going to do in the game.

I've been playing different computer/video games for many years and I can say that I have had these occurrences happen to me more often than I would like to admit. It recently happened to me again when I got into this MMORPG I've been playing for a while.

BattleForge User Reviews

Some user reviews I think are very representative of how I feel BattleForge is;

Well this game is decent if you're 7 years, but in terms of PVP RTS fails miserably. I mean, no fog of war in pvp. Enough said. Moving ....

The action of the mission of the cooperative is where this game is less, but the gameplay value to fall a lot and gets repetitive after a while. If PVP was fog of war (can not see the map and other actions of player), then the game would be much better in my opinion, but you can always see what your opponent is doing ... What is the point?

The graphics are good, DX11 is always an advantage.

Some minor graphical issues here and there.

What really drives me crazy about this game is the way to get new cards in this game. You can not get new cards to play in cooperative mode or in pvp. You can get "improvements" to the cards you already own but can not get new cards to play.

You really need to buy "sets" of the game site to get new creatures and the ability cards. This idea is great if your stupid enough to lose money on the possibility of buying a deck of cards 1 or 2 that did not have before. You could spend more than 49.99 and has all the cards in the game has to offer. So clever way to steal your money I will give them much credit ...

Anyway, this game is good and everything but the way they make you buy the cards and the way the pvp works without fog of war is just down right ... bad. If you're smart just look at another real time strategy, because it does not really offer anything competitive for a smart player could want. This is more like a game for young children who constantly ask their parents for money to spend on imaginary cards in a game.

I have this game BattleForge 3000 points free when I bought an ATI Radeon HD 5970. Would actually paid real money for cards in this game? Of course not.

And

The game is good, is a blend of strategy and ability to adapt to use the cards and trading systems is very competitive and you have to be very innovative to exchange letters and keep up with current prices, which could increase or drop.PvP is very intense as you need to learn how to deal with the cards and how to use the cards effectively.Even provided for Free2Play F2P players can be used to effectively complete many scenarios at the expert level role, if used correctly.

The only drawback is that there is a small player base, as announced recently and did a lot of maps in spite of the improvements for the cards you will play as many times as you like, but players tend to be repetitive. New also is a hard time to understand the game and may envy other players cards without realizing they already have cards for much of the role and the need to work hard for them.

In short: If it is well publicized and have more maps, which will be one more game. Rocky start for new players, a breeze for experienced players.

Let me know if you guys think these reviews are spot on, or not at all correct.

Two Year Anniversary

I noticed on the site the announcement of BattleForge's two year anniversary. I can't believe how quickly the years pass. It only feels like yesterday as I was first discovering and reading about this game.

Although thousands of years old, the world of Nyn had been a land shrouded in mystery until recently. It has only been two years since BattleForge hit stores and a host of new masters of the sky fell on that glorious world with the aim of friendship with his kindness of the inhabitants and destroy those who would hurt. What has been two years!

Much has happened in that time. Many battles have been fought, many creatures have been killed and many victories have been won! Take a moment to view some of the achievements that the BattleForge skylords have achieved in the last couple of years.

Maybe after I upgrade my computer graphics card and Internet connection I will be able to enjoy what sounds like a pretty epic online strategy game. I am still impressed with how original this game is with its use of cards and being able to keep the game fresh with user created maps. I'm really looking forward to trying out tower defense type of user maps.

New Cards?

I can't find on the BattleForge website where there is information about new cards being released. I thought this was a big selling point for BattleForge, they would release new cards several times a year.

The last edition of new cards was Lost Souls and on the site it says released on February 9th but no year I'm guessing it was in 2010.

I can understand why they don't release cards all the time, because they are difficult to balance and still add uniqueness to the game. And also players might feel overwhelmed by all the new cards and having to shelf many of their current cards to add the newer ones to their deck.

But still I was looking forward to seeing some new cards introduced at least once a year.

Game Losing Population

I was browsing through the BattleForge forums again, and I noticed it didn't seem like there was very many active topics and few new posts within the last few days. This tells me the player population might be waning or decreasing.

Although basing a game's player population on the forums alone is pretty biased. It seems like when a game first comes out the forums are packed with new players that want to learn more about the game before they try it. Then after they try the game out and don't like it they won't post of the forums again, but if they do like the game they might not post as often because they will be spending their time playing.

On some forums they state some visitor statistics at the bottom of the page; how many users are currently online, when the most users ever, and many more. I noticed that the most users every online was during January of 2009. That is two years ago which is another big reason why I think BattleForge is losing player population.

I really feel for the developers. It must be heartbreaking to spend a lot of your time and effort on an Massively Multiplayer Online style game and see it open up with a lot of enthusiastic players only to see the player population slowly dwindle every month.
