Game Losing Population

I was browsing through the BattleForge forums again, and I noticed it didn't seem like there was very many active topics and few new posts within the last few days. This tells me the player population might be waning or decreasing.

Although basing a game's player population on the forums alone is pretty biased. It seems like when a game first comes out the forums are packed with new players that want to learn more about the game before they try it. Then after they try the game out and don't like it they won't post of the forums again, but if they do like the game they might not post as often because they will be spending their time playing.

On some forums they state some visitor statistics at the bottom of the page; how many users are currently online, when the most users ever, and many more. I noticed that the most users every online was during January of 2009. That is two years ago which is another big reason why I think BattleForge is losing player population.

I really feel for the developers. It must be heartbreaking to spend a lot of your time and effort on an Massively Multiplayer Online style game and see it open up with a lot of enthusiastic players only to see the player population slowly dwindle every month.
